The exhibition Nordic Drawings 2008, which will first be shown at Skellefteå Konsthall in the period
1st June – 17th August 2008 and will then go on tour, is associated with the Nordic Drawing
Triennial which has been held in Skellefteå and has grown in size since the beginning in 1989.
The aims then were to draw attention to and continue with the registration of Nordic drawings
that the Nordic Arts Centre had begun in 1981 with “Nordic Draughtsmen” in Sveaborg.
Today, in 2008, Skellefteå Konsthall, in collaboration with the Nordic Art Association and the Rackstad Museum, is organizing an exhibition of drawings with a quite different point of departure and background. With Nordic Drawings we will be emphasizing drawing as the independent art that it is, with everything
from pure pencil drawing to more boundary-breaking idioms; at the same time showing where contemporary Nordic draughtsman¬ship stands today, with all its breadth and potential.
Artists from all the Nordic countries with different forms of expression and temperaments have been invited to participate by a jury consisting of the board of the NAA, and this will help to increase artistic exchanges and cooperation across national boundaries. We hope that Nordic Drawings will lead to the realization of a regular Nordic Drawings exhibition at appropriate intervals.
This year Skellefteå Konsthall took the initiative, but it would be interesting if any other art exhibition venue in the Nordic region were to take the next step.
